UNICEF, CAF Sign Convention

The accord is aimed at broadcasting messages on the rights of children during the 2016 AFCON in Cameroon.

Football is said to be a rallying force and the greatest political party in Cameroon to which everyone belong. This assertion has been proven true once more as the United Nations Children’s fund is aiming to use the organization of the 2016 AFCON in Cameroon to diffuse information sensitizing people on the rights of children in Cameroon. This is the object of a convention signed between the confederation of African football, CAF and UNICEF on Saturday September 17.

The intention is to attract the attention of the national and international community on the key stakes affecting children in Cameroon. Both institutions will launch a joint campaign for the respect of the rights of children during the tournament. The campaign will also involve players in advocacy activities in favour of children and carry out activities to raise funds for UNICEF.

It is not first time UNICEF is using football or football stars to send out messages in favour of children. They have been using been football stars like Appiah in Ghana, Nwanko Kanu in Nigeria, Salomon Kalou in Cote d’Ivoire, Aaron Mokoena in South Africa, Samuel Eto’o for Cameroon and Omar Tchomogo in Benin.
