The Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Bidoung Mkpatt, granted audience to a delegation of former Indomitable Lions players on Friday December 28, 2018 in his cabinet. Speaking at the audience, the head of delegation, Roger Milla said the purpose of the visit was to present to the Minister a sports project called “Tournoi des légends”.
He said the tournament was supposed to take place before the 2019 AFCON in Cameroon but since the country is not hosting the competitionagain, the same tournament will take place in Cameroon just to rekindle hope for Cameroonians.
It will be a four-nation tournament and will bring together former world champions notably France, Brazil, Italy and Cameroon to help entertain the Cameroonian people who according to him are frustrated after losing their hosting rights of the 2019 AFCON.
The public will once again see former world stars like Paolo Rossi, Maldini (Italy), Marcel Desailly, Zinedine Zidane (France), Laurent Blanc (France), Kaka, Kafu, Ronaldo (Brazil), among others.
The “Tournoi des légends” will take place in the two new stadiums under construction in Douala and Yaounde. Milla said the objective of the tournament is to showcase the beauty of Cameroon to the world. The competition has been billed for April 2019.
