SDF: Crucial Elective Conventions Begin Tomorrow

Two conventions from 22nd -24th February 2018, will elect members of the National Executive Committee, National Party Chairman and 2018 Presidential Candidate anticipated.

Some 2,000 accredited delegates of the opposition, Social Democratic Front Party (SDF) are set to chart the way forward for the party in elective conventions in Bamenda.

In effect, Friday, February 23 will feature elections of some 50 party officials into the National Executive Committee (NEC) and above all; a National Chairman.

The Chairman of the organizing committee, Hon. Cyprian Awudu Mbaya told Cameroon Tribune that away from the 9th elective convention, an extraordinary convention on Saturday, February 24, 2018 will designate a candidate who may fly the party’s flag at the 2018 Presidential election.

Hon. Cyprian Awudu Mbaya said qualification for elective positions is all about members who showcase outstanding militancy, enjoy at least five years of membership, consistency and commitment to the SDF ideology.

At press time, the incumbent National Chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi featured as the lone candidate for the leadership position of the party. He emerged as the candidate of the North West following a regional SDF Conference recently in Bamenda.

The crucial extraordinary convention of February 24, 2018 will draw the lines for candidates interested to lead the party at the 2018 Presidential election. Among them are the National Vice Chairman of the SDF, Hon. Joshua Osih, SDF Legal Adviser, Hon. Joseph Mbah Ndam and another SDF Parliamentarian, Hon. Simon Nchinda Forbi.

The SDF Convention comes in the backdrop of the announced senatorial election slated for March 25, 2018. But, Hon. Cyprian Awudu Mbaya stresses that the Senatorial election will not be topical during the convention because the party’s investiture committee is handling it.

Initially programmed to hold in 2016 and later 2017, speed brakes in logistics did not help matters for the organisation of the 9th SDF Convention.

It is finally scheduled to take place amidst security challenges rocking the North West region but Hon. Cyprian Awudu Mbaya told CT that they are working towards hitch-free events. The Convention will feature guest political parties, observers and friends of the party.
