Rwanda will pay London football club Arsenal 10 million pounds (22.5 billion FCFA) annually for three years to have “Visit Rwanda” displayed on players’ sleeves and pitch-side advertising screens, agency reports said on May 28, 2018. The deal includes hospitality at the Emirates Stadium, match tickets and access to players for promotional work. Rwanda’s Development Board said the deal was part of a plan to double tourism – its largest source of foreign exchange that has so far created 90,000 jobs. A spokesman said its goal could only be met by marketing the country “in innovative ways.” According to Arsenal, the deal “will help Rwanda meet tourism goals and develop football.”
