Peace Awareness: New National Campaign Launched

The objective is to imbibe the notion amongst young people in order to ensure Cameroon’s emergence by 2035.

Cameroon is generally acknowledged as a peaceful and relatively stable nation where various religious, ethnic and tribal groups live in tolerance. Not taking this for granted, the National Civic Service Agency for Participation in Development has launched a nation-wide peace awareness campaign amongst young people. According to Esua John Enow, Deputy General Manager of the agency, the goal is to ensure that tomorrow’s generations continue to promote and maintain the peace that the country currently enjoys.

Esua John Enow spoke on Friday, September 23, 2016, at the Essos, Yaounde headquarters of the National Civic Service Agency for Participation in Development during. It was during a panel discussion on, “Youth and peace promotion for an emergent Cameroon by 2035.” The activity, which ended the celebration of this year’s Peace Day, was attended by about 100 trained volunteers and conscripts from Yaounde. It was opened by the agency’s Director, Taossi. Meanwhile, the peace campaign will next month be taken to the rest of the regions. Esua John, who chaired the panel discussion, said peace promotion fliers were distributed earlier in the week to young people in Essos.

The panel members were Justice Prudence Galega, Nsegbe Jean Colbert of the National Civic Service Agency for Participation in Development, an Islamic cleric, Oumarou Ayouba and Rev. Dr. Philemon Nfor, a Baptist pastor. Each of them spoke on how peace can be promoted and maintained. The objective was to raise awareness among young people on the need to promote peace in their communities and the nation as a whole. Peace promotion has been included in the training of volunteers and conscripts since 2012.
