The Head of European Union Delegation to Cameroon  tendered the invitation on March 13 at the Ministry of External Relations.

The President of the Republic, Paul Biya  and the government of Cameroon have been invited to participate in a high level conference dubbed « Our Ocean 2017, An Ocean for Life », scheduled to hold on October 5-6, 2017 in Valletta, Malta. The invitation for the Cameroonian Head of State was tendered on Monday,  March 13, 2017 by the Head of the European Union Delegation to Cameroon, Ambassador Françoise Collet during an audience with the Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella. According to the EU diplomat, the important conference that will bring together about 1,000 delegates, will focus on protecting the ocean against pollution, climate change effects,  as well as maritime security.  Cameroon, being a coastal country, Ambassador Collet pointed out, faces these global challenges and can thus play a pivotal role in surmounting them.

The country’s preponderant role in the COP21 Climate Change issues, the preservation of peace and security in the Gulf of Guinea,  as well as fishing and oil exploration activities make Cameroon an important actor, she noted. She expressed satisfaction for the signing of the Lome Charter by Cameroon and the operationalization of the Coordination Centre.
