National Assembly: Humanitarian Situation in Far North Assessed


House Speaker Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril had talks with outgoing UN Resident Representative Najat Rochdi on February 28, 2017.

The Speaker of Cameroon’s National Assembly, Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril and the outgoing Resident Representative of the United Nations  System in Cameroon, Najat Rochdi on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 assessed the humanitarian  and security situation in the Far North Region  and the needs as well as gaps. This was during an audience Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril granted  her in his Cabinet in Yaounde.

Najat Rochdi during her goodbye audience to provided the House Speaker with feedback of her recent mission to the Far North Region where the ongoing war against the terrorist group Boko Haram  has telling humanitarian  and security challenges. She told the press after the talks that the UN  has been helping to address urgency and emergency humanitarian situations through a  development nexus. The is done through a number of  recovery programmes  carried out by UN humanitarian agencies. One of the key actions is to help the affected people develop resilience instead of depending on assistance.

The UN has also been carrying out activities related to dialogue and platforms of dialogue  to ensure peaceful cohabitation between displaced people and refugees on the one hand and the host communities on the other hand.  The outgoing UN senior official disclosed that the United Nations was ready to keep on supporting  Cameroon and the most vulnerable people get out of crisis.

Najat Rochdi took over office in Cameroon on May 14, 2013.
