Nlemba Roger, Secretary General of the South West Athletic League has indicated that activities are in progress to have the 24th edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope on Saturday February 23, 2019 in Buea. On the starting block at the Molyko Omnisport Stadium, 536 national and international athletes are expected to take off to the summit of the mountain and back to the finish line.
Nlemba Roger said that all the athletes are expected on the field on that day at 6 am and by 7 am, the senior category will be on their marks. Ten minutes afterwards the veterans category will be released. The procedure will be same for the junior and relay categories.
Cameroon Tribune reporters were informed that some of the athletes are already making their presence in Buea. On Thursday and Friday prior to the race, athletes are expected to have their medical examination at the Molyko Omnisport Stadium. In the senior category, the first three winners will bag home FCFA 10 million, 7 million and 3 million respectively for male and female categories.
All athletes will have a token of FCFA 10 000 each. Despite indications from officials that all is set for Saturday February 23 race, the town of Buea as of Monday February 18, 2019, was still to feel the usual effervescence that characterised the previous editions of Mount Cameroon Race of Hope in Buea. Many Buea inhabitants blame the situation on the crisis steering the Anglophone Community in the face.
