Major Thomas Brooks was decorated with the medal of Knight of National Order of Valour on February 27, 2017.
Cameroonian authorities have once more recognized the contribution of the United States of America in the ongoing fight against Boko Haram and insecurity in general. Major Thomas Brooks, Chief Officer of Security Cooperation in US Embassy in Yaounde was on February 27, 2017 raised to the rank of Knight of the National Order of Valour.
President Paul Biya on February 6, 2017 exceptionally raised the outgoing US Security Cooperation Chief to the rank of Knight of Cameroon National Order of Merit. The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Joseph Beti Assomo on behalf of the Head of State decorated him with the medal in the presence of the Ambassador of the United States of America to Cameroon, Michael Stephen Hoza. As he performed the ritual, Mr. Beti Assomo congratulated Thomas Brooks for his dynamism as he created, designed and worked hard to ensure the success of the programme for the training and equipping Cameroon’s security forces to fight the terrorist group Boko Haram. On behalf of the President of the Republic, the Defence Minister said the country’s military and security forces will never forget Major Brooks because of his dynamism, hard work and bilingualism.
The US Ambassador Michael Stephen Hoza said Major Thomas Brooks worked with him for three years. He said the military officer will forever be remembered for creating the programme for the training and equipping Cameroon’s security forces to fight Boko Haram. He said thanks to Major Brooks, Cameroon has military equipment and kits to fight terrorism as the military officer better knows the nature of combat. Major Thomas Brooks is leaving Cameroon back to the US military headquarters.
