Littoral: Deworming Targets 7,000 Children

The Divisional Officer of Douala I gave the kicker to the campaign in the Wouri March 21.

From March 21-24 children between 5 and 14 years will attend to a deworming exercise by the Ministry of Public Health. The campaign targets primary school children in public and private institutions who fall within the age group.

Each child will be administered a tablet of Mebendazole with clean and pure water. The objective is to eradicate worms among the target population, which sometimes manifest through vomiting.

To begin with, the campaign was launched on the campus of Government school Group II Bonapriso Tuesday, March 21. The Divisional Officer of Douala I, Jean Marc Etoa Mbarga, launched the health exercise by personally administering the drug to pupils of the school and those from other private schools in the presence of the Divisional Delegate of Basic Education, Sylvie Epopa, and other administrative authorities, head teachers and teachers. Hence the campaign can be carried out in all such academic institutions in the Wouri Division.

In his address Jean Marc Etoa Mbarga called on parents and teachers to ensure that every pupil within the targeted group receives the drug. He cautioned that the tablet has no secondary effect, and that children should regularly wash hands after visiting a toilet, and drink potable water.
