Fire Nearly Guts Douala Home


At least a home has been reduced to ashes by a fire disaster that broke out at about 7pm Saturday around Maison Blanche in the Ngangue neighbourhood.

 

Parlour sets like chairs and electrical gadgets among other things have been lost in the disaster. Eye witness accounts hold that the ravaging fire was provoked by a wrong manipulation of a gas cooker. Neighbours, however, were quick to put off the fire which prevented it from crossing over to neighbouring houses well before the arrival of Fire Fighters.

Truck Kills Woman

A heavy duty vehicle crushed a woman at the Terminus neighbourhood in Douala Friday morning. The woman is said to have alighted from a taxi and was waiting by taxi’s driver side to collect her change when the truck hit and carried her off. Immediately she gave up the ghost. Her remains were said to have been taken to the Laquintinie Hospital Mortuary.

Succour for the Disabled

The public has been called upon to extend their hands at disabled persons. Martin Camus Mimb made the call in Bonanjo-Douala Thursday while launching his association Donnons-nous la Main. The Journalist and Manager of RSI (Radio Sport Info) who himself is a disabled person in order to reach out on disabled children by collecting funds to sponsor their education. During the launch he said whatever the public would offer will be wholly channelled to disabled kids.

His motivation, he said, comes from the fact that as a child disabled by poliomyelitis at the age of one, he suffered mobility problems among other things and would not want others to have the experience. Gifts will be handed over to the beneficiaries December 21, 2016.
