Egypt: President Al-Sissi Sworn In For Second Term

After winning the presidential vote last March by 97 per cent, Abdel Fattah al-Sissi was on June 2, 2018 sworn in for a second term as Egypt’s President, vowing to fight “those who choose violence, terrorism and extremism,” the BBC reported. Al-Sissi in his first term faced a series of jihadist attacks that killed hundreds of military personnel and civilians, many of them in the northern Sinai Peninsula. He added that the country continues to face economic, social and political challenges, “with their negative effects felt on all aspects of life.”
