Job seekers and students in Douala have been coached on how to go about looking for a job. The drilling exercise took place at the Douala Port Authority where the young Cameroonians came out in their numbers to get first hand information and orientation about jobs in Cameroon.
The rate of unemployed youths in Cameroon is said to be on the increase and most of them are in need of career orientation reasons why the International Job fair dubbed “Salon International des Métiers et de l’Emploi” was organised.
The 8th edition of the Job fair was a rare moment for the job seekers to meet with some employers and know what is expected of them when they get to the Job market. On hand to open the 8th edition of the job fair was the Minister of Employment and Vocational Training Issa Tchiroma Bakari, who said the event was in line with governments efforts to fight against youth unemployment.
He added that the Head of State, Paul Biya has created jobs for young people and he is more determined to create more. He called on young people in the littoral Region to go more professional rather than having certificates that will not be able to give them jobs. To him the government has created vocational training centres nationwide to help youths in their quest for professionalism.
The National Employment Fund, he went on, is also there to guide job seekers. He congratulated the organisers of the Job fair for such a wonderful initiative as it will go a long way to help young Cameroonian Job seekers. He also urged employers to give preference to Cameroonians in their recruitment drive.
The organiser of the event, Debora Tonye Mvaebeme said they hope to drill more than 1,000 students and young job seekers for the three days that the event will run. She said for the past seven editions, they have been able to train over 7,000 youths out of which some are employed today.
The International Job fair under the theme: “Opportunities in the Maritime Sector” will run from the 1315 of March 2019. On the ground, companies in the ma ritime sectors where available to exhibit their potentials to the cross section of students and job seekers.
