Digital Economy: Advanced Institutional Framework Chatted


Stakeholders involved in the technological advancement of the economy met on August 29, 2018 at the hemicycle of the National Assembly to discuss progressive ways of instituting new legal frameworks in the sector.

Organised by La Francophonie in partnership with the Parliamentarians Network on Telecommunications and Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) and the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, the forum focused on adapting to new exigencies related to digital transformation.

While officially opening the workshop, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Datouo Théodore, said adjusting and accommodating technologically innovative mechanisms is needed for the development of the country.

The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng lauded the workshop saying Cameroon will take into consideration the recommendations from partners and see to their implementation for the digital transformation of the country.

“Digital transformation is going too fast and we need to accommodate laws that adapt to these developments,” she stated. Representing La Francophonie, the Director of Cabinet at the Secretariat General of La Francophonie, Jean Louis Atangana Amougou, said their objective is to accompany Cameroon towards the realisation of its digital economy goals.

The President of the Parliamentarians Network on Telecommunications and ICTs, Hon. Julien Bara Azao highlighted the already existing laws on electronic communication, cyber criminality and the recent strategic 2020 digital Cameroon plan.
