Cameroon-Switzerland: Plurilingualism Cooperation Consolidated

This follows the different working sessions and consultations held by the Swiss Federal Delegate for Plurilingualism, Nicoletta Mariolini, during her visit to Cameroon.

The spirit of living together, unity in diversity, the promotion of bilingualism and multiculturalism are fundamental aspects that featured on deliberations during the official visit of the  Swiss Federal Delegate for Plurilingualism, Nicoletta Mariolini, who arrived Cameroon on January 21, 2018 and left on January 26, 2018. Her discussions with the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism, the Ministry of External Relations, diplomatic forum at the International Relations Institute of Cameroon, visits to the Yaounde Linguistic Pilot Centre, the Yaounde International Handicraft Centre and the National Museum amongst others had the underlying goal of exchanging experiences and best practices on the use of language and cultures to foster unity in contemporary times.

Before the departure of the Swiss Federal Delegate, her last official stop was at National Museum; a 5,000 meters building of 21 exhibition halls. After the over two hour tour in the edifice, Nicoletta Mariolini remarked that she was impressed with the explanatory notes of the different items in the structure which were in both English and French languages.

“Presentation and guidance has been done by a bilingual team. I am impressed by the degree of attachment given to cultural preservation. I have seen exhibitions from all the regions of the country and other works of arts from different African countries. The ancient communication instrument which dates over 300 years has really amazed me and attest to the fact that cultural heritage is treated with so much value in Cameroon,” she said.

Nicoletta Mariolini left Cameroon with the assurance of continued cooperation between the two countries.
