The last day of the visit took them yesterday to the Omnisport and Bonamoussadi stadiums as well as the Akwa Palace, Pullman hotel and the Douala airport.

The visiting CAF inspectors to Cameroon wrapped up their visit to Douala yesterday with a visit to the remaining structures in the city to host the continental football jamboree next year. as concerns the sports infrastructure, the delegation paid an inspection visit to the Bepanda Omnisport stadium as well as the Bonamussadi stadiums which are going to serve as training fields. It turned out that work on both stadiums after long months of waiting, had effectively started.

The Omnisport stadium needs only renovation work while that of Bonamoussadi needs entire construction. According to Sebastien, a worker with Magil construction, the renovation work on the Omnisport stadium will include changing the lighting system, water supply system, re-doing the pitch and fence to raise the stadium to not only CAF but FIFA standards.

It is worthy to note that the work will be carried out thanks to a financial loan from the Canadian government, reason why the Canadian flag could be found floating alongside that of Cameroon at the entrance to the stadium.

Meanwhile, the ground around the Bonamussadi stadium has been leveled and the access road graded with some houses and businesses destroyed in the process pending the beginning of construction work proper. The stadium will have a capacity of 1,000 seats and shall have only one tribune as opposed to the Mbappe Lepe stadium which will have a capacity of 4,000 seats and have tribunes all round the green turf.

On the way to the stadiums, the inspection team made a brief stop-over to the structure to host the tournament’s secretariat in Bonanjo to make sure the structure had the necessary facilities such as telephone, internet and good working conditions.

Just like the day before, the team was split into two with one group visiting the sport infrastructure while the other visited the hotels and the Douala international airport. This time, it was the turn of the Pullman hotel and Akwa Palace hotel to be visited.

The CAF caravan continues its mission today in the South West where they will be inspecting structures in Buea and Limbe linked to the organization of the 2019 AFCON.
