Basketball 3×3: Genetics, ACPBA Top Charts


The second playing day of the centre Regional championship took place on Saturday January 20, 2018.

More and more, younger children are getting interested in the basketball 3×3 championship. Matches counting for the second playing day of the Centre Regional championship took place at the sports complex of the “Lycée Fustel de Coulanges” in Yaounde on Saturday January 20, 2018.

Organised by the Centre Regional Basketball League in collaboration with Onyx Basketball Academy, the competition brought together players from schools in and basketball training centres in Yaounde making a total of over 150 teams. It was an opportunity for Yaounde inhabitants to watch young Cameroonians discover rich talents in basketball. The players competed in the U-11, U-13, U-16 and U-18 categories using the 3×3 format.

In the men’s category ACPBA Basketball Club was the first with ten points followed by AS Keep with nine points and DNA Basketball Club with eight points. In the women’s competition, ACPBA Basketball Club and Genetics Basketball Club are leading with ten points each.

They are followed by LM2 (1) with seven points. Louis Tsoungui, basketball coach and lecturer at Lycée Fustel de Coulange said the objective of the competition is to open the institution to the public, unite Francophone and Anglophone youths, promote and develop the basketball 3×3 format and to fight against clandestine immigration.

The President of the Centre Regional Basketball League, Yves Tsala said the intention of the regional league is to enable young children participate in the tournament and to promote the sport in the region.

“The traditional junior basketball championship for the Centre Region will begin next weekend but we wanted that the children to participate in the basketball 3×3 which will help develop the sport in the country,” he said.

The third playing day of the Centre Regional championship has been billed for February 16, 2018. This will be followed by the final phase which will take place at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex in March 2018.
