The opening ceremony featured choreographic demonstrations showcasing the strength of the Army at the service of the nation.
Keeping fit and cohesion amongst the nation’s Armed Forces is at the centre of the 2017 edition of the games of the 2nd Joint Military Region/2nd Gendarmerie Region (RMIA2 and RG2) on course in Bamenda. Launching the event on 3rd July, 2017, the Commander of the 2nd Joint Military Region, Major General Saly Mohamadou, stressed the need for fair play, discipline and solidarity to reign. He saluted the authorities of the University of Bamenda and GTHS Bamenda for generosity with sports infrastructure for use. Officials and athletes from participating delegations took time off to observe a minute of silence in honour of fallen colleagues who went to the world beyond, fighting the Boko Haram insurgency.
The games, scheduled to run from 2nd-9th July, 2017 assembles some 800 sports men and women competing for medals and supremacy in eight sport disciplines. The event features competitions in football, handball, volleyball, Lawn tennis, Ballon Militaire, Commando Walk, Mini Rally and Semi Marathon. A 5km cohesion walk from down town, Bamenda Commercial Avenue to the Command Post of the 22nd Motorised Infantry Brigade, Up Station early on July 3rd announced the event before the official launching in Bambili.
