Extraordinary session of the North West chapter of the National Youth Council in Ndop, Ngoketunjia Division pushes for effective 2017/2018 school resumption.
The event on August 19, 2017 was an extra-ordinary meeting of the Regional and Divisional Presidents of the Youth Council in Ndop, Ngoketunjia Division during which resumption of schools for the 2017/2018 academic year featured prominently. It was all about deliberations and recommendations in efforts to encourage children to go back to school in the backdrop of social media threats and arson perpetrated by suspected proponents of schools boycott in the North West and South West regions. The session featured the President of the National youth Council, Jean Marc Afesi Mbafor who encouraged Regional and Divisional Council collaborators to turn full circle with inspiration for effective resumption of schools. The session dropped curtains with resolutions and recommendations for the government to empower the youth council to select and facilitate the work of a minimum 680 back to school youth volunteer ambassadors in all the 34 sub divisions of the region.
They also urged PTAs and school administrations to facilitate the cleaning of school premises in order to give strong signals for schools resumption. It also emerged from the recommendations that matters could be helped if the government carries out a promotional sale of didactic materials in communities to promote back to school activities. It also featured that the National Youth Council is ready if empowered to become more vocal in dissemination and sensitization on the good news of education on community radios and social media, plus actions by the government in response to concerns raised by protesting Anglophones. The session also stressed the need for a national participatory forum to discuss the crisis and appealed to the Head of State to exceptionally address youths in the frame work of the crisis.

“Many youths suffered a setback without education in 2016/2017 and I do not want to be part of the frustration. The boycott of schools last year sent some youths into stealing, drug addiction and some idling girls could not prevent falling into the hands of evil with unexpected pregnancies. I am really prepared to resume school and I pray the government and our parents to make things happen”.
