ATP Tour: Roger Federer Wins 100 Singles Tittle

Roger Federer won his 100th ATP Tour title at the Dubai Tennis Championship on Saturday March 2, 2019. The 37-year-old Swiss tennis star beat Greece’s Stefhanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 6-4 to win the competition Saturday for the eighth time. In Cameroon Roger Federer, a 20-time Grand Slam champion is a household name.

Despite his age, his prowess has much to write home about. His outstanding performance has inspired many Cameroonian sportsmen and women. Cameroonian youths watch tennis competitions especially because of Roger Federer’s abilities. Federer’s first ATP title came at the Milan Indoors on 4 February, 2001, when he beat Frenchman Julien Boutter.

The 37-year-old Swiss maestro is just the second man after American Jimmy Connors to reach a century of tournament wins. It was also partial revenge for the shattering defeat Federer suffered against the up and coming Tsitsipas in the last 16 in his defence of the Australian Open crown in January. Federer will have to win 10 more titles to beat Connors’ record of 109, while Martina Navratilova holds the all-time record having won 167 women’s singles crowns during her career.
