They had talks with External Relations Minister Lejeune Mbella Mbella on August 18, 2017

The Vice President of the Economic, Social and Cultural Council of the African Union (ECOSOCC), Alain Blaise Batongue and the Chairperson of the Peace and Security Cluster of the organ, Ngalim Eugine Nyuydine presented the plan of action of ECOSOCC to the Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella during talks in Yaounde on August 18, 2017.

They came to tell the Minister that Alain Blaise Batongue in his capacity as Vice President of ECOSOCC has been conferred the powers to manage the council’s activities in the Central African sub-region. One of the key actions is to implant national branches of ECOSOCC and popularise ECOSOCC as the structure in charge of promoting the activities of African  civil society organisations.  The two ECOSOCC officials being all Cameroonians, it emerged from their in-camera talks, are seeking to create a branch of the council in Cameroon.

Alain Blaise Batongue was elected the Vice President of ECOSOCC for a two-year term of office during the organ’s permanent general assembly that took place in Cairo, Egypt  from March 27- 31, 2017. Ngalim Eugine Nyuydine was during the same general assembly re-elected Chairperson of the Peace and Security Cluster of ECOSOCC.

The Economic, Social and Cultural Council was established in 2004 as an advisory organ of the African Union composed of civil society organisations. The principle of ECOSOCC is for civil society to organise itself to work  in partnership with the African Union.
