AfDB President: Memorable Welcome At Nsimalen Airport


Prime Minister Philemon Yang in the early hours of July 16, 2017 received the visiting President of the African Development Bank.

 

The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Ayodeji Adesina continues his high-level official visit to Cameroon with great assurance and high esteem considering the caliber of government officials that received him at the Yaounde-Nsimalen International Airport at 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 16, 2017. The visit that will end on July 18, 2017 is on the invitation of the Head of State, President Paul Biya.

Prime Minister, Head of Government Philemon Yang led the delegation of government officials who welcomed the AfDB President as he alighted from the Air Côte d’Ivoire jet. After hugs and warm handshakes, Prime Minister Yang led the visiting AfDB President Akinwumi Ayodeji Adesina to the VIP room of the commercial section of the Yaounde-Nsimalen International Airport for some minutes of sharing before take off for the Yaounde Hilton Hotel where Mr Akinwumi is lodged.

The visiting President of the ADB despite his late hour of arrival still had time to give his impressions to the press. He acknowledged that he was in Cameroon on the invitation of the Head of State. He said he was coming to the country he knows so well after having worked in Cameroon but specified that it was his first visit after his election as President of the African Development Bank. Concerning the reception given him on arrival, Mr Akinwumi said he was highly honoured to have been received by the Prime Minister. He said the AfDB and Cameroon were working on a number of projects and said the visit was an occasion to strengthen Cameroon and African Development Bank cooperation that started in 1972.

Nigerian-born Akinwumi Ayodeji Adesina, a distinguished development economist and agricultural development expert, was elected as the eighth President of the African Development Bank Group on May 28, 2015 by the Bank’s Board of Governors at its annual meetings in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
