Security is an important aspect which concerns the rulers and subjects alike as well as organisers of major events. It is in this light that an awareness seminar on security matters in preparations for the Total AFCON Cameroon 2019 took place in Yaounde yesterday October 24, 2018.
Speaking at the opening, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Bidoung Mkpatt said in order to have an impeccable organisation of the Total AFCON 2019 in all the domains especially in security, the expertise and suggestions from all are welcome.
He said in prelude to the visit of CAF security mission to Cameroon which will run from October 27 to November 1, 2018, Cameroon is mobilised to assure CAF of its capability to handle all aspects of security both in and out of the competition venues.
Minister Bidoung Mkpatt used the occasion to remind the members of the security missions related to AFCON 2019. These include establishing a detailed security plan for all airports, train stations and stadiums, hotels, hospitals, etc. Support the organisation of accreditations and put in place procedures to facilitate relations with the authorities in charge of security among others.
He called on the participants to work hand-inglove to ensure the effective implementation of the exigencies of CAF. Organised by the Local organising Committee for the 2019 AFCON (COCAN), the seminar brought together participants from across the country.
The workshop aimed at empowering organising committee members by proposing the best orientations in the organisation of major modern sports events. In view of a perfect organisation of the Total AFCON Cameroon 2019, COCAN solicited the services of an expert recommended by CAF, Frederic Gicqeuax who has contributed insecurity organisation at several sports events in the domain.
Frederic Gicqeuax was granted audience by the Minister of Sports and Physical Education on Tuesday October 23, 2018 after which he had a working session with the members of the different technical committees of COCAN.
